John Powell is President and CEO of Alfresco, the leader in social content management. John has 25 years of experience in the enterprise software markets including BI, applications and database markets, working for companies that delivered service to customers in traditional license models and SAAS offerings. Since founding Alfresco in 2005, John has grown the company to be the largest private pure play open source company with over 2,200 major global customers across 66 countries. Prior to Alfresco, John was responsible for running worldwide operations at Business Objects® (NASDAQ: BOBJ). During his tenure, Business Objects grew at 50% per annum to $415m, took the company to IPO on NASDAQ and a market capitalisation in excess of $6B. Powell founded Business Objects UK in 1991, and built the UK organization and then the global organization into the most successful Business Intelligence player worldwide. Business Objects was acquired by SAP for $7B. Prior to joining Business Objects, Powell worked in sales management positions at Oracle® and Comshare®. He has a BS First Class from Birmingham University.
